ICE agents visit Hayward elementary school, causing fear and distrust

HAYWARD, Calif. (KRON) — In North Hayward, messages on Cherryland Elementary School windows read, “Be kind,” and their marquee reads, “Be responsible, be respectful, and be safe.”

But on Friday, the community didn’t feel safe.

“Schools are just tender places that when families begin to lose trust and faith in their school to protect kids, that’s a problem,” said Hayward Mayor Mark Salinas.
