An East Bay pizza palace has slung its final pie

Berkeley’s Three One Four is closing its doors after a year-and-a-half of preparing cheese-wheel pastas and making pizza in the next-gen oven that’s swept through the Bay Area’s pizzerias. In a parting message on Nov. 12, the restaurant cited “the financial stress” of a break-in — the second in six months — as a factor.

An “unsustainable” rent increase put an end to Korean restaurant K-Elements BBQ in San Francisco’s Richmond District, the business said on Facebook. The all-you-can-eat spot operated for eight years.

The Refuge, a popular San Mateo stop for pastrami sandwiches and burgers, has closed after four years at the Hillsdale mall. The Peninsula will not be without its cured meat, however, as the flagship location in San Carlos remains open.

Johnny & Sanny’s in Mountain View has packed it up after six months. Palo Alto Online reports that owner Gianni Chiloiro will be focusing on expanding his pizzeria chain, Doppio Zero, instead.
