Suspected shooter, woman with stroller arrested after Black Friday shooting at San Jose mall

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A gunman shot three people at Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose while the mall was packed with thousands of Black Friday shoppers. A woman who was pushing a baby in a stroller helped the shooter escape from the mall while stampedes of terrified shoppers ran out, city officials said.

During a news conference held on Monday afternoon, San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph said the gunman was a 17-year-old boy who is on juvenile probation and a “violent gang member.” A 21-year-old woman, who has a “familial relationship” with the boy, helped him evade arrest while she was also pushing a stroller, investigators said.

The shooter’s intended target — a man whom the teen perceived as a rival gang member — was shot. Two shoppers, a woman and a 16-year-old girl, were caught in the crossfire…
