The Cost of Crossing Bay Area Bridges is Surging as Another Toll Increase Hits

If you feel like Bay Area bridge tolls just went up, you are not imagining it — and another round of increases is already locked in. Starting January 1, 2026, drivers will pay more to cross every state-owned toll bridge in the region, with prices marching steadily toward double-digit tolls by the end of the decade.

What exactly is changing in 2026?

On January 1, 2026, tolls on the seven state-owned Bay Area bridges will rise from $8 to $8.50 for a standard two-axle passenger vehicle. That includes:

  • San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge
  • San Mateo–Hayward Bridge
  • Dumbarton Bridge
  • Richmond–San Rafael Bridge
  • Carquinez Bridge
  • Benicia–Martinez Bridge
  • Antioch Bridge Metropolitan Transportation Commission

This new hike comes on the heels of a $1 increase that took effect on January 1, 2025, which brought tolls from $7 to $8 as the final voter-approved jump under Regional Measure 3. ABC7 San Francisco
