Alameda County Sheriff Reopens 1973 Unsolved Double Homicide, Seeks Bay Area Community’s Help

In a recent appeal for public assistance, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has reopened the wounds of an unsolved double homicide case. In December 1973, Michael Marie Shane and Kathy Sue Pethel lost their lives under tragic and mysterious circumstances. Their bodies were discovered on the west side of Fallon Road in Dublin.

With an apparent absence of witnesses, the tale of what transpired between the hours of 12:30 AM and 2:00 AM on that fateful Monday has been darkened by time. Shane and Pethel were last seen strolling toward the infamous hitchhiking corner of Ashbury Street and Oak Street in San Francisco. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, in a renewed plea, stated on social media that they are “asking for help to solve this case.”…
