New specialty grocery store to anchor 5-story Bay Area development

An independently owned Bay Area grocery store is expanding to the Peninsula for the first time as part of a new mixed-use development.

Woodlands Market, a chain with roots in Marin County, will “anchor the ground floor” of the forthcoming B Street South project at 222 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown San Mateo, according to a Tuesday news release.

The five-story, 104,000-square-foot building is slated to replace a Draeger’s that closed in February. Along with the approximately 19,000-square-foot grocery store, the planned development includes office space and 10 housing units reserved for low-income residents.
