Chop shop investigation leads to stolen cars and trailer at San Leandro home

(KRON) — San Leandro police shut down a suspected chop shop when they recovered seven stolen cars and a stolen trailer at a residence in San Leandro Thursday.

San Leandro police responded to the report of a stolen vehicle at a home in the 700 block of Alice Avenue. Police said they set up a perimeter around the residence and surveillance after they found the stolen car and suspected there were more stolen vehicles at the location.

A suspect, identified as Mario Tamez, 46, of San Leandro, was taken into custody and faces several charges, including drug possession, operation of a chop shop, and multiple counts of possession of a stolen vehicle.

San Leandro police said detectives from its Crime Suppression and Property Crimes Unit and investigators from the Alameda County Regional Auto Theft Taskforce assisted in the arrest…
