After nearly 80 years, a beloved Bay Area steakhouse is closing for good

One of the Bay Area’s longest-running restaurants, the Brass Door, will close on Christmas Eve after nearly eight decades in business, the owners announced this week.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that The Brass Door will be closing, with our final day of operation on December 24th, 2025,” the owners said in a statement, marking the end of a long run as a gathering place for family celebrations, barroom regulars and generations of local diners. “Despite our best efforts, we were unable to secure or renew a lease for our location, and we must bring this chapter to a close at the end of that day.”

The steakhouse began in 1946 as the 8/5 Club — a six-seat bar named for its founder’s preferred betting odds — and grew steadily as San Ramon evolved from a rural ranching community into a suburban city…
