(KRON) — An overnight act of vandalism has left a school community in Dublin shocked. Following a night of joy and cheer at the Dublin High School’s fifth annual tree lighting celebration on Wednesday, officials said they returned Thursday morning to find eight trees across campus chopped down.
In a letter to the community, Principal Maureen Byrne said two people damaged “not only our grounds, but a space that belongs to every student, staff member, and family in our community.” The eight trees that were cut down “were part of our campus environment, planted and cared for to create a welcoming, vibrant place for our students to learn and grow,” wrote Byrne.
The Dublin Police Department is investigating the act of vandalism, the school said. A $100 reward was announced for information leading to the identification of the people responsible.
“To see them destroyed so deliberately has been heartbreaking,” Byrne wrote. “The incident has left many of us questioning the motivations behind such destructive behavior.”…
