Hayward explosion victims identified as ‘hardworking family’

(KRON) — The victims of a dramatic explosion and fire that leveled a home in Hayward last week have been identified as three adult siblings and two young children. According to an online fundraiser set up by family friends, the adult victims in the blast are Jorge Duenas Ponce, his sister, and brother.

The adult siblings, along with the two children, were inside the home when it exploded last Thursday after a third-party construction crew ruptured a gas line, according to the fundraiser. The family, according to the fundraiser, lost everything they owned “in a single moment.”

Three of the family members — two of the adult siblings and one of the children — remain hospitalized with severe injuries. According to the fundraiser, they “will have to fight through a long and difficult recovery process.”

One of the children who lived in the home is safe, however the fundraiser states that both children “have been uprooted from the only home they knew, losing their clothes, toys, and sense of security in the blast.”…
