In a recent development from Palo Alto, police have apprehended a suspect identified as 63-year-old Jimmy Russian CoseyStevens, an East Palo Alto resident, after he allegedly engaged in an assault on an officer and evasive maneuvers. The chaotic string of events unfolded on Monday night. According to a Palo Alto Police Department release, officers on patrol in the 1700 block of Embarcadero Road attempted to stop a dark-colored SUV for expired registration and failure to turn on headlights.
The vehicle initially fled but was subsequently located by another officer at the entrance to an apartment complex on Woodland Avenue; it was at this juncture that the SUV was reported to have reversed into a patrol car and smashed through the complex’s gates to escape, officers purged the pursuit because of the suspect’s dangerously high speeds, putting an end to the chase over concerns for public safety. After diligent investigative efforts, CoseyStevens was found at his home, and following a brief chase on foot, he was taken into custody.
CoseyStevens is facing serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, both classified as felonies; he was also charged with a misdemeanor for not registering as a sex offender.
