On Monday morning, a startling crime shook the Sunnyvale community when a man posing as an Uber Eats delivery driver attempted to force his way into a home, leading to his arrest on charges of burglary and felony assault. According to a social media post from the Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers Association, the incident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. in the 700 block of Hebrides Way. The suspect, carrying what appeared to be food, used the pretense of delivering an order to gain access to the victim’s residence.
The unsuspecting resident, upon informing the suspect that the order was not his, became the target of an alarming escalation. The Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers Association described the turn of events in their post, “When the victim stated the order was not for him, the suspect looked at his phone briefly before producing a black handgun from his hoodie, pointing it toward the victim, and forcing his way through the doorway.” However, the victim and his mother bravely confronted the intruder, causing him to flee the residence and hastily depart down Hebrides Way in his vehicle.
Swift action by the local law enforcement led to the apprehension of the suspect following the frightening encounter. Officers located his vehicle shortly after the incident and made a traffic stop, which ultimately led to his arrest. “The suspect was positively identified and found in possession of the clothing worn during the incident,” the Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers Association reported.
