Sprinkles, known for its cupcake ATMs, is shutting down all stores

Sprinkles Cupcakes, the California bakery chain that helped ignite the gourmet cupcake craze and popularized cupcake-dispensing ATMs, announced Wednesday that it is closing all of its locations nationwide.

The shutdown includes several Bay Area stores, including Palo Alto and San Ramon, with a long-promised Burlingame opening now unlikely.
