A Palo Alto man accused of setting a fire and ramming cars at a South Bay winery last month was allowed to complete a stock transaction worth more than $1 million from jail, according to court records cited by The Almanac.
The defendant, Vikram Beri, 42, founder of an online mental health startup, has been held without bail at the Santa Clara County Main Jail since his arrest on Dec. 6. He faces nine felony charges and one misdemeanor, including attempted murder, arson and multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to prosecutors.
According to the report published Tuesday, Beri’s attorney filed an emergency motion on Dec. 16 asking the court to allow Beri’s brother to access his cellphone and laptop, which were being held by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
