Supervisors on leave amid investigation into suicide in Oakland courthouse holding cell

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 27-year-old man who was found hanged in an Oakland courthouse holding cell last month after being left alone by deputies for nearly an hour, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Three sheriff’s supervisors at Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse were placed on administrative leave in connection with the Dec. 17 in-custody death, according to the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation and was granted anonymity in accordance with Chronicle policies.
