Cookware recalled due to possible lead contamination

(NewsNation) — Several metal cookware items are being recalled after testing found they may be “contaminated with significant levels of lead.”

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration said IKM, also known as Indian Kitchen Mart, announced a voluntary recall of several products because the cookware may contain elevated lead levels that could leach into food during normal use.

The cookware was distributed to grocery stores, primarily in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Fremont, Hayward, Pittsburg, Milpitas, Tracy, Manteca, Dublin, El Cerrito, Richmond, Hercules, San Jose, Fresno, Pleasanton, Roseville and Sacramento. The recalled items include:

  • A-cook Aluminum Kadai size 5 (43 pcs)
  • Brass Tope (10 pcs)
  • IKM 4-quart Pital brass pot (9 pcs)
  • IKM Aluminum saucepan wooden handle 9” (56 pcs)

It’s unclear which specific stores sell the items, but they were not sold at major retailers.

No illnesses have been reported to date, the FDA said.

Consumers can identify the recalled items by their materials and design. The aluminum kadai is a silver-toned, wok-style vessel with a wide, curved basin and no long handle. The aluminum saucepan has a wooden handle and a 9-inch diameter. The brass items are golden in color, with the Brass Tope resembling a stock pot and the Pital brass pot featuring a deeper body with a narrower opening…
