‘Berlin Wall is down’: Portion of fence toppled in battle over Bay Area beach property

A group of people tore down parts of the controversial fence restricting access to Thornton State Beach on Friday evening, dismantling panels that have sparked weeks of outrage and legal dispute along the Daly City coast, according to the owner of a neighboring business.

Eight people were seen removing sections of the fence panels by unscrewing clamps, said Zachary Leyden, co-owner of Ocean View Stables, which borders the fenced area.

“They’re just tearing down the fence,” Leyden said. “We are in support.”

The fence blocking all entrances to trails was taken down, including the entryway to the dog park, he said. The protesters carried large signs reading “Free the land,” he said…
