Officers assist person in mental health crisis
About two weeks ago, officers from the Hayward Police Department responded to a call from family members about a loved one in an active mental health crisis. With help from the East Bay Regional Parks helicopter, patrol units, drone operators, and the Hayward Fire Department, officers hiked nearly three miles through rough terrain to find the person. After more than an hour of crisis negotiation, the individual agreed to seek medical care and returned safely.
