Castro Valley’s last official and longest-running lumber business was demolished last week to make way for a self-service car wash opening later this year.
Cranes, bulldozers, and a team of workers tore down the sheds, structures, and even the front office of Castro Valley Lumber, located at a 1.35-acre mostly rectangular corner of Castro Valley Boulevard and Stanton Avenue. Most of the lot was used for open storage of lumber and building materials wrapped in plastic, and a few large lumber trucks.
Owner John Tallman told Robert Sousa of Castro Valley News that he was grateful for the community’s support over so many years and that he was looking forward to retirement…
