833 Roosters Seized In California Cockfighting Bust

More than 800 roosters were seized when authorities busted a suspected cockfighting ring in California’s Bay Area this week.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said it served a search warrant at a property on the 3000 block of Stony Point Road Wednesday in connection with allegations of animal abuse and illegal cockfighting. The search was carried out by deputies, the Rural Crimes Task Force, detectives from the Property Crimes, Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Investigations units, code enforcement officers and officers from Sonoma County Animal Services.

In total, 833 roosters were found on the property, along with firearms, slashers, timers, veterinary medication and supplements, identification bands, betting slips, small-denomination currency and other evidence “consistent with bird fighting.”…
