130 residents displaced as Bay Area city evaluates safety of building

More than 100 residents of the city of Santa Clara who feared structural damage to their condominium complex will remain evacuated while part of their building is repaired, officials said.

The Santa Clara Fire Department evacuated about 60 people from Villa Bella, a complex at 1850 El Camino Real, after receiving reports of displaced concrete at 6:47 p.m. Saturday, the city said in a news release Sunday.

Residents of about 10 homes on Clay Street behind the complex were also asked to evacuate as a precaution. Also, both directions of El Camino Real were initially closed between Scott Boulevard and Pierce Street, but the westbound lanes reopened late Saturday…
