The City of Fremont has chosen Floyd Mitchell as its new Police Chief. His first day on the job will be Monday, March 9, 2026. Chief Mitchell brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including leadership roles in Kansas City, Temple (TX), Lubbock (TX), and Oakland (CA). While in Oakland, the city saw a 31% drop in homicides and more than a 10% drop in property crimes.
He’ll take over from Chief Sean Washington, who retires after 28 years with the Fremont Police Department. Deputy Chief Lance Brede will serve as Interim Chief from March 4–8, 2026. A community swearing-in ceremony for Chief Mitchell is planned for this spring…
