Large tree falls onto 101 in South Bay, damages 2 Teslas

(KRON) — A 40-foot-tall tree that fell onto Highway 101 in Sunnyvale Thursday afternoon caused major damage to two Teslas, according to the California Highway Patrol. Multiple northbound lanes of the highway just south of the Fair Oaks Avenue offramp remain blocked as of 1 p.m.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 12:13 p.m. The tree, according to CHP, fell onto the right lanes where the collisions occurred. One white Tesla suffered major damage all around the car, while a second white Tesla suffered major front-end damage, a CHP incident log stated.

It was not immediately known if anyone was injured.

Two right lanes of 101 remain closed, while two left lanes are open.
