Mystery Fremont Bridge Blaze Leaves Dog Dead, Cops Dig for Clues

A quiet stretch of bridge near Niles Boulevard and Linda Drive in Fremont turned into a disturbing scene on Tuesday, when firefighters found the remains of a minimally burned dog after a small fire broke out along the bicycle lane. Crews quickly knocked down the blaze, and no people were reported injured.

The fire was reported at around 9:05 PM, and investigators recovered the animal at the scene. Officials have not yet determined whether the dog died in the fire or beforehand, and the case remains under investigation, according to The Mercury News.

Police Canvass Area, Pursue Leads

Fremont police said officers searched the area for a person reportedly seen near the fire, but did not find anyone matching that description. Detectives are continuing to chase down leads as they work to determine how the blaze started, per the Fremont Police Department.
