One of the Bay Area’s best Filipino restaurants arrives at a buzzy food hall

A chef whose food celebrates her Filipina heritage and upbringing both in Guam and the Bay Area has opened a new restaurant in the East Bay.

FOB West, an offshoot of chef-owner Janice Dulce’s FOB Kitchen in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood, is now open inside Prescott Market at 1620 18th St. in West Oakland, according to an Instagram announcement. It’s the latest addition to the ambitious, 12,000-square-foot food hall that opened last year with backing from a major developer.

An early menu for the new stand included some of the same hits as FOB Kitchen, which was recognized on the Chronicle’s Top 100 Bay Area restaurants list and as a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant last year. Expect Shanghai lumpia with pork as well as a vegetarian version with sweet potatoes and green beans (both $13). Other dishes included arroz caldo ($12) a chicken rice porridge with ginger and crispy shallots.
