(KRON) — Police in Atherton said charges have been filed after two students at Menlo-Atherton High School were seen stuffing a backpack containing a firearm inside a locker on Wednesday.
A school staff member watched as the two students placed the backpack inside the athletic locker at approximately 1 p.m. and noted that they “appeared to intentionally block the view of the locker while doing so,” the Atherton Police Department said. Out of concern, the staff member opened the locker after the students left and discovered the firearm inside the backpack.
Atherton Police Department’s school resource officer responded to secure the firearm and investigate the situation. After the two students were identified, authorities said charges were filed for possession of a firearm on a school campus, minor in possession of a handgun, and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
