Deadly Night On Santa Clara Street As Two Men Are Gunned Down In Downtown San Jose

Two men were killed yesterday in a shooting just east of downtown San Jose, after officers responded to reports of a person being shot in the 700 block of Santa Clara Street around 10:11 PM, according to San Jose police. When officers arrived, both men were pronounced dead at the scene, and Santa Clara Street was shut down between S. 14th and S. 16th streets while homicide detectives combed the area for evidence. Through the night, investigators canvassed for witnesses and video but initially released few details.

In a brief social media post early Friday, the department acknowledged the double homicide but offered no additional information, as reported by KTVU. The outlet reports officers were initially called after someone reported a person being shot and that investigators remained at the scene into the morning hours.

The killings add to a troubling run of downtown violence this year. In February, two men were killed in a separate early-morning shooting on the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio, and later that same day a different shooting near Market and Santa Clara streets wounded five people, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.
