(KRON) — A suspect who police say was behind an incident involving bear spray that sent two people in Alameda to the hospital Monday has been arrested, the Alameda Police Department announced. Alameda PD responded to the initial incident at around 2 p.m. following reports of residents of an apartment building experiencing respiratory irritation.
Two people — a child and an adult — were sent to the hospital for further treatment. Four others were treated at the scene.

Alameda PD officers learned that someone had thrown an unknown chemical agent at the doorway of the apartment building. The Alameda Fire Department responded and initiated evacuations and a shelter in place.
Officers at the scene identified a vehicle of interest and with the assistance of automated license plate readers located and arrested a suspect just after 5 p.m. Monday. A preliminary investigation determined that the substance was likely bear spray.
