They came for tteokbokki, K-pop-themed snacks, salmon carcasses to make broth and a bustling food court. In a sign of the Bay Area’s seemingly bottomless obsession with supersized Asian grocery stores, hundreds of people waited in a line that wrapped around a huge Dublin shopping center to be among the first shoppers at H Mart’s first East Bay location on Thursday morning.
The largest international supermarket chain in the U.S., the years-in-the-making Dublin H Mart opened Thursday at 7884 Dublin Blvd. The nearly 39,000-square-foot shopping complex offers the specialty Asian ingredients, meat, seafood and snacks that H Mart is known for. Like select other stores, this H Mart is also home to a food hall, which includes an outpost of galbijjim specialist Daeho, as well as a bakery and vendors offering Korean fried chicken, noodles and corn dogs. Unlike the other Bay Area stores, Dublin’s food court boasts a huge outdoor patio with ample seating.
The Dublin H Mart will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m…
