A 21-year-old man from San Jose died after being struck by a vehicle in the 1900 block of Poplar Court at about 2:00 a.m. on March 28, 2026. Officers from the Hollister Police Department freed the victim from beneath the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested Damian Mendez, 20, of Hollister, on suspicion of homicide and booked him into the San Benito County Jail. Investigators say alcohol was not a factor and believe the incident followed an earlier altercation in San Jose.
