Suspect Linked To 75 Storage Unit Burglaries Found With Stolen Property, ‘Homemade Assault Rifle’

Authorities investigating dozens of storage unit burglaries in California say they have made an arrest and recovered stolen property including a “homemade assault rifle.”

The Santa Clara Police Department said that on Feb. 23, it identified a rash of storage unit burglaries and began an investigation. Detectives determined a single suspect burglarized 35 storage units over a three-day period.

Investigators identified the suspect vehicle using license plate reader technology, and learned the suspect was linked to similar burglaries across multiple jurisdictions. Detectives surveilled the suspect for an extended period before obtaining an arrest warrant as well as search warrants for the suspect’s residence and storage locations outside the city…
