Northern California weather: Weekend deluge of rain and snow moving in

After moderate precipitation Friday, Northern California is bracing for major rain and snow Saturday and Sunday. This could be the Bay Area’s wettest weekend stretch in more than a year, and heavy Sierra snow is expected to force chain controls.

On Friday, the Central Valley and foothills were hit with heavy lightning activity, with more than 30,000 total strikes. Bay Area rainfall totals were generally between 0.25 and 0.75 of an inch.

Scattered showers were expected from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., especially in the North Bay.
