San Leandro: Welfare Check Ends In Fatal Police Shooting At Marina; 3 Cops Placed On Leave

A man was shot and killed Thursday night after allegedly pointing a firearm at officers during a welfare check at the San Leandro Marina, according to police.

The San Leandro Police Department said officers responded at 8:07 p.m. after receiving a request to check on a man who had reportedly made suicidal statements to a friend and was said to be suffering from depression. Officers first searched for the man at a residence in the 14500 block of Santiago Road, but later found him sitting inside a vehicle near the boat launch at the San Leandro Marina, police said.
