MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating last week’s deadly shooting in Madera County after a deputy with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office fired at a suspect and killed him, state officials announced on Monday.
The incident on Friday started after the sheriff’s office received a call at around 4:30 p.m. about someone inside their home uninvited. That person was then seen walking away from the home. He was confronted by a deputy, and the two got into a fight.

During this struggle, the sheriff’s office says the suspect grabbed the deputy’s taser and attempted to use it against her. The deputy fired her gun, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
