BASS LAKE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Madera County Supervisor is praising mitigation work for helping prevent the spread of a fire that he says “could have been a bad one.”
The fire, now known as the “Marina Fire,” broke out just after 2 p.m. Tuesday near the southern shore of Bass Lake.
Although not densely populated, it’s a popular recreation area, with miles of parked cars often lining the lake in the summer. That, combined with the lack of exits and a forest full of fuel, was enough for the sheriff’s office to almost immediately issue evacuation advisories.
Fortunately, crews worked fast, and those advisories were lifted less than two hours later…
