Mortars, pyrotechnics, explosives seized in massive Reedley fireworks investigation

REEDLEY, Calif. (

) – More than 3,000 pounds of illegal fireworks are off the streets after police and fire investigators in Reedley finished up a weeks-long investigation targeting dangerous fireworks ahead of the 4th of July holiday.

The joint operation, conducted by the Reedley Police Department Investigations Unit and the Reedley Fire Department Investigations Unit, resulted in the seizure of more than 1½ tons of illegal fireworks, including more than 10,000 aerial mortars, homemade pyrotechnics and other explosive materials.
