SANGER – A former Sanger High School drum major is now putting the Central Valley on the map while helping to lead one of the nation’s premier youth drum and bugle corps.
Serenity Hudler recently joined the ranks of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, a Wisconsin-based organization in the World Class division of Drum Corps International. Having first packed her bags in early June, Hudler has since trained and is now acting as one of the Scouts’ drum majors as they travel the nation during the 2026 DCI Summer Tour.
Through conducting the group in both rehearsals and now competitions, Hudler still describes hearing the Scouts’ sound as a “culture shock.” While she thoroughly enjoyed her days in high school bands and other ensembles, Hudler has discovered — and is now part of — a whole new level of performing.
“I think the first time I heard the Scouts play I was super emotional, and I was like, ‘Dang, they sound really good,’” Hudler said. “It’s super exciting to hear them play and watch them perform all the time … it’s just an insane experience to hear how loud they can play and see how fast they’re moving around.”…
