American Airlines flight 2653 returns after fire warning in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – American Airlines flight 2653 had to return to the gate Friday morning after an “indicator warning of a potential fire” at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport, according to airport officials.

The American Airlines flight was scheduled to leave for Dallas (DFW) at 5:41 a.m. The Fresno Fire Department responded after the aircraft, which was departing from Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT), returned to the gate.

The aircraft was seen on the tarmac surrounded by fire crews. The aircraft is currently being assessed, according to FYI.

In a statement to YourCentralValley.com, Fresno Fire says the department responded at around 5:40 a.m. and did not find any visible fire or smoke on the Boeing 737. Crews think the engine may have backfired, causing the indicator warning…
