California just changed the rules on which tires you can buy starting in 2029

California regulators have approved new energy-efficiency standards that will eventually limit which replacement tires can be sold in the state, a move state officials say will save drivers money on fuel and electricity while reducing pollution.

The California Energy Commission unanimously approved the new regulations Monday.

The changes will not happen immediately. The first phase of the standards takes effect in 2029, followed by stricter requirements beginning in 2033…
