A recent attack on a senior prosecutor outside the Fresno County Courthouse and an earlier incident at Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz’s home have renewed concerns about the safety of public employees and sparked debate over whether certain city attorneys should be allowed to carry firearms inside municipal buildings.
Last week’s targeted attack outside the courthouse raised alarm among government officials. Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp later confirmed that 42-year-old Dustin Crawford singled out an attorney connected to a decade-old case and stabbed him three times.
Janz pointed to a separate incident in May, when he said he awoke at about 3:30 a.m. to find a knife-wielding intruder ringing his doorbell. The individual then hopped a backyard fence and banged on the back door before law enforcement arrived…
