A routine traffic stop near the 160-block of South Main Street in Milpitas turned into a high-speed flight and a violent intersection crash last Saturday, after a driver refused to pull over, ran a red light at S. Main Street and Serra Way, and slammed into another vehicle lawfully entering the intersection. The occupants of that vehicle were rushed to a local hospital with injuries initially believed to be potentially life-threatening.
According to the Milpitas Police, an officer spotted the vehicle driving recklessly and activated emergency lights to initiate a stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed before running the red light and colliding with the other car. Police say the injured occupants were later determined to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and they are expected to recover. The Milpitas Fire Department was credited with providing quick response and professional care at the scene.

Stolen Clothing With Tags Still Attached
Inside the suspect’s vehicle, officers reported finding a large quantity of new clothing with retail price tags still attached, which police say was stolen during a felony theft in Sunnyvale. The driver, identified only as a 20-year-old from Fresno, was arrested on charges including felony evasion causing serious injury, reckless driving, and other traffic-related offenses, and was booked into the Santa Clara County jail.
