Farm bureaus silent as ag, labor groups in Fresno area decry ICE surge. ‘Sowing fear’

As organizations representing farmworkers and laborers speak out about concerns around ICE activity in the Central Valley, local farm bureaus have been silent so far.

The Nisei Farmers League held a news conference Friday in which Manuel Cunha Jr., president of the organization since 1996, decried the fear that ICE activity is causing in Central Valley immigrant communities.

“I’ve actually talked to workers that were stopped,” Cunha said. “I’m very disappointed in what I’ve seen. And that is people that have pickups with a construction rack, and people of color, are the ones that are being stopped. And that, to me, is unacceptable in the United States of America.”…
