Remember Lauck’s Bakery? Its spirit and bierocks live just outside the Big Fresno Fair

The Lauck’s Bakery sign is high above the Big Fresno Fair, but the bierocks the establishment was so well known for are nowhere to be seen inside at the fairgrounds.

Instead, people looking for a taste of the Armenian treat will have to go down the road to Panaderia Torres at 4440 E. Kings Canyon Road, where former Lauck’s employee Hector Garcia set up shop for about a month

Lauck’s Bakery was opened by George and Molly Lauck in 1938, and fed Fresno for 70 years.

Garcia worked for Lauck’s for four of those years. He started as a dishwasher and worked his way up to baker’s assistant, and one of the first recipes he learned how to make was the bierock, a pastry filled with ground beef, cabbage and onions. Garcia worked for the bakery and made hundreds of bierocks a day…
