The National Weather Service (NWS) has outlined a diverse weather outlook for the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada region in the coming days, with rain, snow, fog, and a warming trend all in the forecast.
- Wednesday’s System: On Wednesday, a new frontal system is anticipated to bring rainfall and mountain snow to the area. Rainfall amounts are expected to be less than a 1/4 of an inch, with light snowfall projected above 5000 feet in the Sierra Nevada. The NWS notes a 35-60% chance of 0.10 inches of rain in the valley and a 45-55% chance of 4 inches of snow in locations north of Yosemite Valley.
- Thursday Onward: Following Wednesday’s system, fog and low clouds are predicted to return on Thursday through early next week. Alongside this, the region will experience above-normal temperatures.
- High-Risk Precipitation: Looking ahead to next Tuesday, January 30th, through Friday, February 2nd, the NWS highlights a high risk (60% chance) for heavy rain and mountain snow. This anticipated pattern change is expected to bring significant precipitation to the west coast of the CONUS.
