Strange odor prompts evacuation from building in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A building has been evacuated after occupants reported a strange odor coming from it, prompting a HAZMAT team response, the Fresno Fire Department said.

Firefighters say they responded to a hazmat incident around the area of Palm and Nees Avenues just before 2:30 p.m.

According to fire officials, the occupants of the building reported a strange odor. The HAZMAT responded to the scene to assess it.

Firefighters say some people complained of a minor headache. EMS arrived on the scene just for precaution and the building was evacuated.

As of Wednesday at around 3:40 p.m., fire officials say they believe the cause was a strong household cleaning chemical, which is non-toxic, and the HAZMAT team let people back in the building.
