Prosecutors are drafting a letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom to plead that he intervene in the decision to free Patrick Goodman
A California man who was convicted of second-degree murder in the brutal beating of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son has been granted parole, according to records and reports.
Patrick Goodman, who has been serving a 25-years-to-life sentence at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton, was granted parole last month, despite prosecutors arguing against it, according to records and local outlet KRON .
Goodman was convicted in 2002 of beating toddler Elijah Sanderson to death, leaving the child’s body covered with about 50 bruises.
Goodman killed Sanderson on December 6, 2000, at their San Francisco home, according to San Francisco Public Safety News . An autopsy noted that Sanderson suffered a broken neck, broken ribs, a severed bowel and a severed renal artery, in addition to the 50 bruises.
Last month, the California Board of Parole Hearings approved his early release from prison.
