‘I want him to feel peace’: Fallen Selma Police Officer’s family reflects on 1st anniversary

SELMA, Calif. ( KGPE ) – It has been one year since the passing of Selma Police Officer Gonzalo Carrasco. To honor his memory, family, friends, and community members gathered together on Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Church in Reedley for a mass in honor of the fallen officer.

On Jan. 31, 2023, Officer Gonzalo Carrasco was killed in the line of duty. The 24-year-old is the first police officer to die while on duty in the history of the Selma Police Department. Investigators say he was ambushed while flagged down by a concerned citizen about a suspicious person in their yard.

Leading up to the anniversary, Officer Carrasco’s family have been meeting every night for more than a week to pray for Gonzalo’s soul and that he’s at peace.

“I don’t know how God needed him more than we did it’s just hard, but I hope it helps. I hope it helps him find his way,” said Gonzalo’s Sister Alma Ordaz.

The Gonzalo family invited CBS47’s cameras to be there as they prayed for peace for Gonzalo.
