Arrest in 17-year-old’s shooting death in Fresno over 2 years ago, police say

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 25-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old in Fresno over two years ago, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Police say 25-year-old Gabriel Flores was identified by homicide investigators as one of the suspects responsible for fatally shooting 17-year-old Zachary Xayavong of Fresno.

17-year-old dies after being shot in the head in Fresno, police say

Police say Xayavong was pronounced dead a week after he was shot on July 1, 2021, near Rotary Park at Cedar and Sierra Avenues.

Officers arrived and located Xayavong inside the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to police. Xayavong was then rushed to the hospital where he passed away from his injuries.

Police are searching for two individuals who are also suspects in the murder of Xayavong. They are looking for 20-year-old Noel Pina Leon and 30-year-old Israel Luna. Both suspects have arrest warrants.
