Second, more powerful atmospheric river storm to hit the Central Valley

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The second of two atmospheric river storms will move into Central California this weekend.

This storm is expected to deliver more heavy rain for the Valley and the foothills. Heavy snowfall is expected in the Sierra.

The timing of the next system looks to arrive Saturday evening and could linger into late Tuesday. The heaviest rain for our region will occur Saturday night through Sunday night.

Over a four-day span, one to three inches of rain is possible for the Valley, especially for Kings and Tulare Counties. Foothills could pick up three to six inches of rain.

As of Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service Office in Hanford issued a Flood Watch for the Central Valley and foothills. That goes into effect Saturday night through early Tuesday morning.

Wind gusts will be a big issue on Sunday. The Central Valley can expect wind gusts from the southeast up to 45 m.p.h. Gusts of 65 m.p.h. will be possible on the west side of the Valley along Interstate 5. The foothills can expect similar wind gusts.
