IDENTIFIED: Homeless woman struck, killed by DUI driver in Fresno, officials say

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A woman who was killed after Fresno Police officers say she was hit by a driver who was under the influence was named by officials on Monday.

The crash took place on the evening of Jan. 28 when a car was traveling southbound on Fresno Street approaching Cambridge Avenue and struck a homeless woman crossing the street outside of the crosswalk.

According to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office, the woman was 51-year-old Thuong Duong of Fresno. Police say she succumbed to her injuries as a result of the collision.

During their investigation, detectives say they learned that speed was not a factor in the collision but the driver was found to be under the influence of marijuana.

Investigators say the driver was not at fault for the collision – but was cited for DUI charges.
